mountain huts
I had the great pleasure of experiencing mountain hut life this summer. It opened my eyes to almost another world, I never knew some much activity existed high up in the alps. During the 4 days, I stayed at the vignette, dix and the weissmies hut. From hearing stories from guides and alpine climbers I was lucky to experience the nicest huts, I heard some pretty grim tales so I was very fortunate to say in well cared for huts by the amazing hut guardians who basically run the show. I was amazed how everything was organised as soon as you land in the huts to when you leave in the early hours.
Every time now when I look up from the valley to the alps, i can just image the hustle and bustle before dinner time. i feel very lucky enough to have my first taster of mountain hut life this year. Thank you guardians for looking after me.

birthday wishes: mrs B
Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones that you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor.... Explore, dream, discover.

my first 4000m peak
Gosh where on earth do I start to actually capture the great experience of my life??? For some people they have no idea why or where I have this burning desire to push myself to the limits, especially when I suffer from a phobia of heights... well for a start I love a challenge! And if you don't know me, i am a very determined little lady!
I think it all started from getting into climbing and alpine just comes hand in hand, a natural progression. I had a taster session at plas y brenin when it was in great conditions for trying out crampons, ice axes etc and i have to say i loved every minute of it and I suppose I got the buzz to do more and push myself.... so i did with a trip to Switzerland to celebrate turning 30. We hired a guide who was my guardian throughout the trip! I feel greatly inspired by him and I have learnt so much about me and my abilities. It was literally blood, sweat and nearly tears!
Day 1:
Dry glacier training
Day 2:
Walk in to the Vignette hut
Day 3:
Summit to Pigne d'Arolla (3189 m), Traverse (Vignettes hut to Dix hut)
Day 4:
Summit to Mont Blanc de Chelion (3869m) in a blizard! and back down to Arolla
Day 5:
Walk in to the Weissmies hut
Day 6:
Summit to the Weissmies (4023 m) (Traverse South to North)
